Abby and Tommy wanted their film to feel like a memory rather than a record, so we shot it on Super 8 alongside digital. Grain does something a clean sensor cannot, and El Chorro gives you the light for it. Late afternoon sun coming through the trees, and Camelback sitting right there behind everything.
El Chorro opened in 1934 as a schoolhouse for girls and has been at this longer than almost anywhere in the valley. The Event Lawn sits between Camelback and Mummy Mountain, so you can get two named mountains in a single frame, which is rare here. Casa Paloma takes 250 for the reception and opens straight onto the patios, gardens and outdoor fireplaces.
